| Mission: RIO attains its goal of improving the quality of life of disabled persons by providing comprehensive, coordinated programs which increase the ability of disabled individuals to function at home and at school, on the job, and in the community. RIO was established in 1950 to serve the multi-faceted needs of persons with functional disabilities caused by birth defects, disease, medical conditions or accidents. Services are provided without regard to age, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender. |
Funding: RIO receives its support from voluntary organizations, bequests, special gifts, fees for services, and grants. The agency is supported by the United Way of Orange County through annual allocations and donor designations. Tax Status: RIO is incorporated as a tax exempt organization in California, under the Internal Revenue Service Code 501 (c) (3) and is not classified as a private foundation as defined in Section 509 (a). Governance: RIO is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors whose members serve without monetary compensation. |
| Credentials: RIO’s programs are licensed by all appropriate governing agencies. RIO is an approved provider for the Office on Aging, the Department of Rehabilitation, Medicare, California Department of Public Health, the Regional Center of Orange County, insurance companies, and the Crippled Children Society of Orange County. RIO is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and is certified by the California State Department of Education. The Institute’s staff are all appropriately trained, licensed, and credentialed. |
