Vocational Services - Workshop

Program Description

Work Services is a facility based program designed to increase employability by developing and refining appropriate work behaviors, skills, productivity, quality and stamina through the use of paid sub-contract work. Paid work and on-the-job training are provided at RIO and in various business and industrial settings, with counseling, mobility training and other services as needed.

Eligibility Criteria

The Work Services program employs individuals 18 years of age and over, with disabilities primarily due to:

1. Developmental Disability
2. Learning Disability
3. Sensory Impairment
4. Neurological or Orthopedic Disabilities
5. Other Physical Limiting Conditions

Admission Requirements

1. Must desire rehabilitative services with a goal of future employment
2. Have medical authorization, if necessary, to indicate that the individual is medically stable and able to participate in a vocational rehabilitation program
3. Must be able to accommodate his/her own basic self-help needs including: feeding, wheelchair transfer, bowel/bladder control, and mobility
4. Must be able to control his/her behaviors that may be aggressive, assaultive, or otherwise dangerous to self or others
5. Must have transportation to and from the program arranged by he client in conjunction with his/her family and referring counselor
6. Must have as a primary case manager a Department of Rehabilitation, Regional Center of Orange County, or private rehabilitation counselor. A non-sponsored client may be accepted dependent upon need and space.

Program Days/Hours

The Work Services program is a full-time program located at our Orange facility operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The program is closed on major holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year’s.

Rates/Funding Information

The program is funded by the Department of Rehabilitation and Regional Center of Orange County. Private individuals may pay a fee for services. Transportation may be funded by the Regional Center of Orange County.
