Services - Transitional Adult Program

Who
needs this program?
Consumers
who need more training and longer periods of "real work and
life" experiences in order to learn the necessary skills for
community living and/or employment.

How is the training done?
Training
"modules" are designed to develop and maintain the consumer's
functional skills, similar to those of non disabled adults. The
following training "modules" include, but are not limited to
the following:
Communications
Social and Community integration
Receptive/Expressive language
Mobility training
Community safety
Prioritizing
Decision Making
Consumer identification
Interpersonal relationships
Problem solving
Use of community resources
Involvement in writing a monthly newsletter
Activities of Daily Living
Grooming and Hygiene
Fine/Gross motor skills
Medication management
Dressing
Laundry skills
Meal Preparation
Money Management
Use of household appliances/equipment
Use of watch/clocks
Dental Hygiene
Living Skills (Self Advocacy)
Functional academics
Use of compensatory devices
Use of adaptive equipment
Use of the telephone
Natural consequences
Goal setting
Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy (if needed)
(For consumers requiring evaluation and training in specific therapy modalities)
Pre-Employment
Following verbal/written directions
Follow through
Ability to work and get along with others
Use of equipment/tools
Horticulture, maintenance, and clerical training
Job exploration
Training on routine and repetitive jobs

How
is improvement monitored?
Formal
assessments are conducted on each consumer who participates in
developing their personal goals and objectives within the various
"modules".
Depending
on the consumer's progress, he/she may choose to focus their skill
training in one or two skill areas rather than all four modules.
As
consumer's meet their goals in each skill area, he/she will be better
prepared to pursue less restrictive programming needs.

What
are TAP's goals?
To
train consumers in functional skills to attain greater independence.
To
provide families, advocates, and care providers with proven strategies
toward long term consumer success in work service programs and community
living.
To
educate and assist consumers as they progress in skill level; enabling
their advancement through the continuum of services.

What
are the program hours?
Monday
through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Funding
Information
RIO
accepts private insurance, worker's compensation and private pay.
RIO
is vendored by the Regional Center of Orange County and the Department
of Rehabilitation.
